  What was your initial reaction to finding out the religion is a cult?

  mine was filled with shock and anger but mostly anger.

  it made me feel that way because i have never been lied to like that growing up in the religion with it being all you know.

  CO visit provides preview of April generation change!

  i thought the april wt's brazen generation doctrine change would barely get an official mention before nor after the two paragraphs that deal with it, but yesterday i went to the circuit overseer's visit and in a talk from a bethel outline, he specifically mentioned the change, and i quote... "the very very very newest information we have available, from the april 15th 2010 watchtower!

  " ..reads the infamous paragraphs.. and then, "isn't that wonderful brothers and sisters?

  so now we understand that it means that brother russell's life overlapped with brother rutherford's who's life overlapped (he went through them all), so clearly, this means the end is near.".

  to me the worst part is the "clearly this means the end is near" part. if anything, clearly this means the end is NOT near, since their lives can perpetually overlap with others! thats just a catch phrase they'll stick on at the end of ANY sentence or paragraph.

  i looked around a little to see if anyone else seemed like they disagreed, but saw nothing but blank stares, not a mention of it after the meeting. i assume it'll be the same when the actual article comes around, wont change anything.

  not too surprised. i had my suspicions, because all the unlogical reasonings never sat right with me in the first place, and that's what got me to find out more on the internet. once my doubts were confirmed it was more a situation of "oh shit, now what do i do if i want to keep all my friends and family?!?"

  "large but mainstream" brings what changes next?

  in some other threads there has been talk of wether the organization will go large and mainstream or small and hard-core in the upcoming years.. in the past few years, the sunday public talk has been shortened, the bookstudy eliminated (at least as a seperate meeting night), #2 talks are down to a simple read-through, and a little longer ago pioneering hour requirements have been shortened.

  personally i would take these as signs of them going more soft and keeping a larger membership.. if this is indeed the case, what would you suspect of being cut off or changed next?.

  Teel, i like that one. i think everyone would rather spend 10 - 50 bucks a month than spend their saturday mornings knocking. and it would work out for the Society too.

  i love these people.i hear this, and i am once again shivering in the tropics because of the altitude of the paramo.i look across the high valley and see cabbage, broccoli, and bitter greens interspersed with frailejones growing on a checkerboard pattern sometimes obscured by mist.i stop by a roadside posada for a hot chocolate.

  a beautiful brown indian child looks at me with mistrust out of his jet black eyes yet offers to sell me a perro de mucuchies puppy.i stop at a hostel (posada), and eat fresh trout and potatoes before retiring for the evening.
